I've just spent the weekend in Canberra, making the acquaintance of Lake Burley Griffin on foot: in the late afternoon, the not-so-early morning and at sunset.
Landmarks: the Captain Cook Fountain, the National Library and the Australian War Memorial.

Gorgeous scenes, Meg!

These are cracking shots, Meg! I love the second one, and 4, with the shadows, and that bridge with the watery reflections! Captain Cooks’ fountain, indeed! He gets about, doesn’t he? 🙂 🙂
Quietly envious. It’s been miserable here all week but the forecast is to improve… a little.

May the skies brighten in your world! You actually inspired me – I was thinking of you as I photographed the bridge, and when I named the fountain: that was an afterthought, as you can see. I had a splendid weekend, dammit. Splendour demands blogs. There are at least three more to come, but there’s also a chaotic house to prepare for a friend’s visit next week. Don’t think I’ve done any housework for six months. Every room demands attention, and I have four days: one of them with a scheduled electricity outage 9-3!

What a beautiful spring day – such gorgeous blue skies! And great photos too. After all Pommepal’s postings of Canberra I’m thinking that I may take a trip there during my holiday. When do you head up to Queensland Meg?

Pommepal’s photos were half my inspiration, especially those misty morning ones. For once I wasn’t up early. Canberra’s definitely worth a visit. I need to go and stay – I’m usually there for a purpose, which cuts out exploring. I’m going to Queensland early December I think – if I can ever catch my son for a conversation uninterrupted by ferrying kids, thunderstorms or food! My daughter hands in her thesis by the end of November.

We are going over to NZ on 2nd Dec so it looks like I have a week to kill at the end of Dec. I could stay in Sydney, but I will already have had a week there on my own so it would be nice to go somewhere else. I’m tempted by a few days in Canberra then possibly heading to the coast? Any thoughts? I can hire a car or use buses, either will do me.

How did I not see this? I’m still not sure how this all works. I’d love to host you at the coast, and hear your take on Canberra, and see what your camera makes of my hood.

Duh! Not end of Dec. end of November! I fly back on 16th December. It would be fab to meet up with you if that is possible – can I get to Potato Point by bus? I know I can get a bus to Canberra OK, and possibly from there to Bateman’s Bay. That’s the extent of my knowledge I’m afraid.

Look at that spring blossom, in a few weeks I’ll be longing for it!

I have to go to a colder climate than the coast to get this level of splendour … Or autumn colour, for that matter. At least I don’t have to go quite as far as. Warsaw. Go well into the dark of the year!
