As my Polish grandson would say (in two-year-old's English) “Anudder one wooden bench”. OK, I know I swore off bench challenge, but this one confronted me as I approached the stairs down to Carters Beach near Narooma. So for two days in a row I'm joining in Heyjude's bench challenge, this time with a wooden memorial bench with a spectacular view. Behind the bench is a new planting on the denuded headland, and in front of it a view over blue sea and rolling waves to the north.

It’s a compelling subject Meg. I find myself taking photos with benches in them without even knowing that I am! I’m hoping by the end of this year I shall have overcome this obsession π

I keep remembering benches from the deep past, and resisting the urge to go through thirty five albums to find the image. Mainly because I haven’t mastered scanning yet on the new printer, but also because I should be packing! Why do you reckon they have such charm?

I’m just surprised to see so many in photos that didn’t have a bench as the subject! Are you heading up north now then? And your ‘cruise’ to Cairns? Can’t wait to hear about that π

Cruise not happening. the company that flew Bamaga folded and my niece relocated the wedding to Cairns. So I’m trying to learn about rainforest photography for the Daintree. The wedding and then 6 days with a campervan.

Oh, that’s a shame. Are you going out to the Barrier Reef? Or have you done all that? You have experience with rainforests, but I expect to see interesting mango swamps π I like Cairns, so less pretentious than the other BIG cities. Or at least it was.

Barrier Reef yes, although my son told me yesterday that I need to visit Ningaloo if I want a real reef. That’s on the far side of the country. I visited Cairns briefly with my daughter many years ago, but we went inland as far as Laura.

I’ve been up as far as Cape Tribulation, and inland to Mossman Gorge which was very interesting. I wonder what your lens will capture for us π
