For this week's wordpress challenge “vibrant” is the theme and its epigraph is a quote from Khalil Gibran:
Let me swallow the sunset and drink the rainbow
Three king parrots offered their vibrant green and red briefly outside my living room window, but I wasn't fast enough to capture them.
Mosaics on toilet blocks are much easier to sieze photographically. This collage consists of fragments of Durras rising, 2014, a pair of mosaics designed by Moira Christie depicting Durras Beach by day and night.
A beautiful mosaic Meg and so suitable for the vibrant theme. Now if you had captured those King Parrots!!! Toilet art work does seem to be a feature on Aussie loos/dunnies/bogs/thunder box….I have quite a few collected from around Australia

The parrots love my poison peach (Trema aspera or Trema tormentosa) which is heavy with tiny berries. There’s one out there now, but as soon as I approach camera-ready it takes off.

They are very nervous birds, but beautiful to watch

I wish my head was fabulous and crystal clear! I’m sorting the house for the Polish influx, date yet to be announced. We had a monster longdrawnout thunderstorm last night, and driving rain that met me half way into the study to shut the windows, so sleep was somewhat disturbed.

Poor sleep never helps, Meg, but all will be fine when those little tyrants arrive. I wish I had some little tyrants of my own, sometimes :).

Lovely mosaics, these remind me of a rental house I lived in a few years ago that had a mosaic in the cloakroom made of bits of broken pottery and shiny buttons, pebbles and shells collected by the family. Totally unique.

I’ve always liked mosaic. It was one thing I sought in Syria and Jordan. One of the highlights of Petra was watching a young man restoring mosaic: he shared his orange with me. Maybe mosaic would make a good theme? It’s got metaphoric force as well as the beautiful literal.
I’m envious that you actually lived with a mosaic.

(Your garden blog WILL NOT display on my iPad. I get the header photo that just keeps scrolling down and down and down in a blur. Over and over again. Is it just to make me go to the pc where the display is infinitely superior anyway?)

I don’t understand why it doesn’t show properly as the theme is designed for mobile devices. Is it just my blog that does this? The OH has an iPad so I’ll have a look on his, but you probably have a newer one.

Only your blog. My iPad’s 3+ -a bit older than the twins (who’ll be here tonight.) Don’t angst over it – just expect me to be a bit tardy with comments!

Just looked at it on OH’s iPad which is even older than yours and I see what you mean. It is the header photo that is the problem. I have no idea why it is not resizing as it does when I resize it on the laptop. I will stop using header photos for now. Thanks for the heads up. And I am sure you will have much more to do than blog – how long are they staying? Are you going back to Poland when they go?

It’s reassuring to know it’s not just me!
They leave Australia on Feb 12: we leave on March 12. I believe I have to take 365 books if we go for a year, because I’m the babcia who brings books.

Better buy them when you get there! Happy paddling π

And very convenient. The more the better I reckon. I’ll never forget my foray into the men’s loo on Alexandria station because there was no sign of any loos for women. No art work there!!!

I still have bad memories of the time I went to the male loo at uni when I was overwhelmed with study stress! Have you been to Paris? Trying to find a toilet there is a nightmare.

I’ve got them mistressed in Warsaw – just have to make sure I have enough 1zΕ in my wallet to pay my way.

Yes, paying for the loo is a problem. I used to have them mentally mapped out in Cork city when I was visiting my daughter. They cost 1 Euro a go there!

It was the quote that attracted me to the challenge, and then your post. Once I saw the parrots I began to wonder whether I had anything vibrant and unposted. I was very glad to give a home to these!

Can you pick the ones from day and the ones from night?

Ha! I’m not that clever! Except that I would expect the night ones to be duller, left hand and top right and central images???

Your guess is as good as mine – I cropped the complete ones to get the bits.

I’m not quite sure when the habit of artwork on public toilets began, but I’ve seen some great ones. There was one painted by a women’s surfing group I particularly liked. Is it a particularly Australian quirk, I wonder?
