This is the beginning of a new occasional series which I’ve contemplated before and never got round to. It will be interesting to see how much that’s new this old dog can learn, although great abysses of ignorance leave plenty of scope.
The Northern Lights are a spectacle I don’t expect to see, but as a spin-off of the star-frenzy of the last week, I discovered that the Southern Lights, which I’d never heard of, are equally spectacular. Although Tasmania is the best viewing place, my son informs me that they have also been seen as far north as Wollongong. I’m not ready to whizz off to Tasmania quite yet, or to develop star-photography expertise, so I harvested images from the Internet for my pleasure. The first one was taken by Rob McKenna and the rest by Andrew Klapton.

They look like the setting for a fantasy film Meg, I’d love to see them, preferably southern where presumably it’s warmer!

It’ll move me out of my comfort zone. I tend to shy away from new learning, because it’s HARD.

Yep, agree with Jo that Jude has said it for us! Well done for garnering these in a step to improve your abyss of ignorance (!), and I do hope you get to Tasmania to see this spectacle one day, Meg

I think my ‘colleague’ just said it all for me 🙂 🙂 Mustn’t it be amazing to be bathed in these lights? Starry-eyed hugs, darlin!

Likewise…never heard of the southern lights. And I missed them when I was in Tasmania. Must have been the wrong time of year…or I slept through them.

I didn’t think you slept! You seem to pack a lot into time.

Yeah, I try not to sleep, but sometimes you just have to put your head on a pillow and close your eyes, eh.

Wow! These are spectacular images. What colours! And just look at that milky Way! I love the one with the windmill. Makes it uniquely Australian. I have heard of the southern lights, but never seen any photos before. Thank you for sharing these and I look forward to your other new learnings with huge anticipation!

I have to overcome laziness and step outside easy knowing so the next one might be some time!
