I’ve never seen so many bluebottles on the beach or in such dense clusters. In spots it was hard to avoid detonating one: a sharp crack that made me jump and feel disrespectful of the life that was. I don’t know why so many were stranded: they were on all three beaches we visited one weekend in early October. And they’re still there as I prepare to post this in early November.

This is my contribution to DesleyJane’s RegularRandom challenge, where this week she is photographically sophisticated with coffee.
