I don’t always succeed in my role as grandmother to an occasionally testy 14 year old, but I struck absolutely the right note when I went down to shoot his motorbike. He directed me towards the best angles, and stood by, proud in ownership, while I crouched and lent, exploring its intricacies. If you look closely you’ll see signs of his other passion: some days he spent 7 hours in less-than-ideal surf over the Christmas holidays.
This is my contrasting companion to DesleyJane’s beautifully delicate feather in her most recent RegularRandom posting.
The things we do to connect with our Loved Ones!!!
These are fun and remind me of Robert Pirsig’s book.

It’s heart-in-the-mouth connection – he’s had a few prangs, which have left him unscathed, thank goodness. Don’t like motorbikes!

Oh wonderful, what a lucky young man. How old do they have to be to ride on the road?

16 years and 9 months for a learner’s permit. He mainly rides on their 500 acres. It’s scary. We banned our kids because of a few nasty accidents amongst friends. Heart in mouth when he’s out. My son’s thinking is the earlier he begins the better rider he’ll be, based on his own early experience as a driver of cars, from about the same age.

Phew, I’m glad they can’t until then, 18 would be better. He’s lucky to be able to learn on private land isn’t he?

I particularly love the close up of the chain. I bet he was so proud! Are you giving him one of the photos for his wall?

Thanks for sharing Grandma. At least we can get some news on the extended mob in unusual ways. I had lost count on that Grandson’s vintage.
